Seeking Abortion, Finding Life

Amy walked into CompassCare determined to get an abortion.

Her nurse kindly explained that CompassCare neither provides nor refers for abortion. However, every pregnant woman, regardless of her intentions, needs three things: 1) confirmation of her pregnancy via ultrasound, 2) to know the gestational age of the baby, and 3) STD testing and treatment when applicable. Amy gratefully accepted CompassCare’s offer to have her questions answered in a medical appointment.

Amy and her boyfriend, Andrew, were visibly anxious. Pregnancy had not been a factor in their plans for their lives. Amy said, “I just started a new job, and I’m just not ready to raise a child.”

The ultrasound showed a healthy 8-week-old baby. While moved by the ultrasound and sound of the heartbeat, Amy reiterated, “I need to have an abortion.”

She scheduled a return appointment to get her STD results and left CompassCare, still planning on getting an abortion. Her nurse asked the CompassCare team to pray for Amy, Andrew, and their baby.

CompassCare provides comprehensive medical care and community support to women like Amy who think abortion is their only choice. A generous donor has committed to matching your gift, dollar-for-dollar!

Amy did not show up for her return appointment. Her nurse feared for the worst. After all, Amy had been emphatic about getting an abortion.

Unfortunately, Amy’s STD test came back positive. What abortionists don’t tell women like Amy is that, if she has an abortion with an STD, she is at great risk for Pelvic Inflammatory Disease, which can greatly impact her future chances of getting pregnant. Thankfully, Amy’s nurse was able to share this information over the phone, and Amy agreed to schedule an appointment at CompassCare for treatment.

Amy returned with Andrew for the appointment. She was very quiet the whole appointment.

“I’m going to ask Amy to marry me soon. We’re going to keep the baby!”

Ushering them out of the waiting room, Andrew leaned over to the nurse and whispered, “I want you to know that I’m going to ask Amy to marry me soon. We’re going to keep the baby!”

Amy and Andrew found themselves facing an unplanned pregnancy. Their lives were upside down, and they felt that if they could just solve the problem of this pregnancy, then all would be well. But it was at CompassCare that they realized that this pregnancy was, as Rev. Jim Harden calls it, “a crossroads of grace.” Now Andrew and Amy saw that their lives had already been chaotic, but through their time at CompassCare, they felt genuine love, which gave them hope for the future. Several months later, Amy sent a text to her nurse with a picture of her newborn baby girl—Emma.

Prayerfully,

The CompassCare Team
