FDA Strikes Safeguards for Women Taking Abortion Drugs

The Federal Drug Administration is responsible for regulating the use of thousands of medications. Seventy-four are deemed dangerous enough to put them in a drug safety program called Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategies or REMS. This system ensures use of these dangerous drugs comes with increased patient monitoring by the doctor for the patient’s protection. The chemical abortion drug Mifipristone was on that list until recently, being four hundred percent more dangerous than surgical abortion. In April, the Biden administration temporarily lifted the REMS safeguards for women under cover of Covid. But as of December 16, the drug was removed from the list permanently. Given the FDA’s vigorous defense of its restrictions in court as recently as last year, it appears abortion activists sacrificed true women’s health care on the altar of their own political agenda.
