When Allie* first came to CompassCare, she was overwhelmed about being pregnant again. Abortion was in her past, and apparently in her future. She said she was too young to be a mom. She had plans to travel and see the world before she settled down and began a family. Her boyfriend wanted her to continue the pregnancy, but he did not come with her to the initial appointment. At that time, a pregnancy was confirmed, but it was too early to visualize a heart beating.
At her second appointment, the ultrasound showed that Allie was carrying healthy six-week-old twins. She was devastated. She felt very alone and that this was too big a decision to make on her own. Adding to her confusion was her grandmother’s uncanny recent dream that someone in the family would give birth to twins.
At her third appointment, Allie felt conflicted and alone, telling her nurse that the nausea was debilitating, the pressure was just too much, and that she scheduled an abortion. Two weeks went by, and she missed another appointment with her CompassCare nurse, who feared the worst.
CompassCare’s nurse finally connected with Allie by phone. Relieved, she heard Allie say she did not have the abortion and was still pregnant. Deflated, Allie told her that she rescheduled the abortion for the following week. Her nurse urged her to come to CompassCare for another appointment, but she refused.
Imagine Allie’s fears and doubts. A boyfriend who didn’t come to any of her medical appointments. Her own anxiety about parenting. Previous abortion experiences fresh in her mind, and wanting to keep all of it hidden. Young. Alone. Pregnant with twins.
The nursing team did not give up praying or trying to reach her.
Almost three months after her first appointment, Allie picked up the phone once more. She was still pregnant and came into the office the very next day. She had finally told her mom, which changed everything. She no longer felt alone. Allie and her mom were thankful she had not aborted the twins.
Allie told her nurse she decided to continue her pregnancy. She and her mom said they were going to Allie’s grandma after the appointment and tell her about the twins she dreamed about.
“It was the people… the supportive people I have in my life.”
When the nurse asked why she decided to continue with the pregnancy, she replied, “It was the people… the supportive people I have in my life.” Once she shared her secret with others, she no longer felt alone.
For three long months, the Church, through CompassCare, fought with all its heart for this woman and her twins. She was seen by the nursing team four times in a CompassCare office. She was phoned 13 times. Allie made at least two abortion appointments. Many times, it looked like the enemy had won. But God was still fighting for her. And the Church was praying. And when all we experienced was silence, God was working.
Thank God! He is the One who brought about this miracle. He is the One who rescues and saves!
