What is the Key to Victory Over Abortion?

Abortion is a mountain that needs to be removed and cast into the sea. Every year, 40 million abortions occur around the globe, 800,000 and growing in the U.S. If abortion were a nation, New York State would be her capital. Pro-life groups nationwide have written off the abortion giant within New York as unconquerable. But God has given His people a game plan through CompassCare.

The ultimate goal is to dispossess abortion from the land like Israel dispossessed the wicked nations after crossing the Jordan. And the game plan God gave Moses is the same for us today: 1) An honest assessment, 2) a bold path, and 3) relentless patience.

An honest assessment of the situation includes a reality check and a heart check. A reality check accurately assesses the opposition: “You are crossing over the Jordan today to go in to dispossess nations greater and mightier than you, great cities fortified to heaven, a people great and tall” (Deut. 9:1). What is our reality? Abortion in NY is promoted by propaganda, protected by politicians, and paid for by tax dollars. Moses’ heart check asks us to remember what we believe. He encourages us not to focus on the giant that is abortion but on the Giant Slayer: “For the LORD your God is…the great, the mighty, and the awesome God” (Deut. 10:17a).

Also, the church’s march to dispossess the evil of abortion requires a bold path—God’s path. Fighting the fire of death can only be won with the water of life. Moses clarifies the way God walks saying, He “does not show partiality nor take a bribe. He executes justice for the orphan and the widow, and shows His love for the alien by giving him food and clothing. So, show your love for the alien, for you were aliens” (Deut. 10:17b-19).

How God acts is how we ought to act. Sin alienates and destroys while God reconciles and protects. And so must we, without partiality. Every person is made in the image of God and therefore equally valuable. This means that everyone, without qualification, is inviolable—must not be violated. Inviolability is meaningless if it does not apply to the weak and vulnerable: the fatherless, the husbandless, the preborn baby about to be aborted, and his mother who believes she has no choice.

Lastly, dispossessing the evil of abortion from New York entails relentless patience as Moses reveals, “The LORD your God will clear away these nations before you little by little; you will not be able to put an end to them quickly” (Deut. 7:22). It has taken some time to see a 50% reduction in abortion in Rochester. It has taken some time to reach 2 out of 5 women in Buffalo. And yet we are on track to compete with the abortion industry, with an operational presence throughout the state by 2026. We must remain relentlessly patient as we continue helping women have their babies one at a time, one region at a time, building more infrastructure in more abortion hubs—like the Capital Region and online—to reach and serve 50% more women in 2022.

But to dispossess the evil of abortion from the land one more thing is needed… you and me. The key to victory is in the Great Commission: “…make disciples of all nations…teaching them to observe all that I commanded you” (Mt. 28:19a-20a).

Key to victory over abortion: We must teach the world that all people are made in the image of God and as such must not be violatedinviolable.

We must teach the world that all people are made in the image of God and as such must not be violated—inviolable. Inviolability is why murder is wrong—and rape, theft, euthanasia, physician-assisted suicide, slavery, sex trafficking, genocide, and abortion. Apart from the truth behind inviolability, that we are made just a little lower than God (Ps. 8:5), all passion for or against abortion is merely opinion, no better or worse than any other. Apart from the truth of inviolability, dignity is meaningless, equality a sham, rights are ridiculous, and justice a mirage. If we are not made in the image of God, the only honest ethic is, “Let the strong survive and the weak just die.”

But we are made in the image of God. And abortion is the greatest injustice in human history. God has ordained that His people walk in His ways, speaking and acting on behalf of the weak and vulnerable of society, from the exam room to the living room, from the courthouse to the schoolhouse, from the marketplace to outer space.

All people are equally invaluable. So we teach the world through the Walk for Life Weekend. The goal for Walk Weekend is to raise awareness about the equal value of both mother and child while raising $877,000 to serve 50% more women with ethical medical care.

Together, let us continue to “walk in all [God’s] ways” (Deut. 10:12). Register at CompassCareWalk.com.
