Historically Democrats have relied heavily on the courts to accomplish their policy goals because they are too radical for the normal legislative process. One of these unpopular policy objectives forced upon unwilling Americans through the courts is abortion. But the Democrats lost control of the Supreme Court for the first time in decades with the appointment of Justice Barrett.
The easiest way to insulate their abortion policies from being overturned by the will of the people is to add justices. The Biden Administration launched a commission to study the concept of adding four justices to the Court. A few days later, Democrat Senators from New York and Massachusetts announced a bill that would expand the court to 13. Four Biden appointees would shift the current conservative leaning court back to a liberal leaning one.
