CompassCare Nurses, serving women considering abortion every day, confirm that we live in a culture where the demoralizing and dangerous “hook-up” mentality is thriving–where casual sex with multiple partners is often viewed as normal. Jayla* came to a CompassCare office earlier this year admitting that’s how she saw life. Her unplanned pregnancy brought her lifestyle to a halt, horrifyingly unsure who had fathered her baby.
Convinced she wasn’t ready to be a mother, Jayla initially believed abortion was her only choice. Looking for answers, she scheduled an appointment to discuss her options with a nurse.
When the lights in the exam room were lowered, Jayla and the friend she brought with her both began to laugh and smile as the baby moved around on-screen. “I love this baby!” she exclaimed.
The compassionate CompassCare nurse gave Jayla a full explanation of all her options, including the extremely dangerous side effects associated with abortion. Jayla had never researched the procedures nor understood the potential negative outcomes associated with terminating her pregnancy, including the likelihood of future mental health consequences.
After the ultrasound, Jayla was given the opportunity to hear the hope the Gospel could bring to her life. She shared that she had grown up in a fringe religion but had recently been drawn to Christianity. That day, in a CompassCare medical office in the heart of America’s abortion capital, she made the decision to surrender her life to Christ.
At a return appointment, Jayla shared that she had told her parents everything. They were supportive, but the presumed father of the baby was now pressuring her to abort. With new hope and support, she began to see a different picture of her life as a responsible mom for this baby.
She shared that she had decided to continue the pregnancy, stating, “I feel confident in myself.” During her follow-up ultrasound, she chatted with her mother by phone, happily discussing plans for a gender reveal party and looking forward to her baby’s future.
