Court Battle Rages as Pro-life Groups Square Off with NY AG in Manhattan

For Immediate Release: April 16, 2026

New York, NY—On Wednesday, April 15, CompassCare and several other pro-life groups were back in court, this time in Manhattan, fighting for the right to continue fighting for life in America’s abortion capital. NY AG Letitia James sparked the legal fire on May 6, 2024, abusing her position by suing the non-profit pro-life groups for business fraud, crimes that attorneys say do not even exist in statute.

CompassCare CEO, Rev. Jim Harden said of AG James, “She wants to SLAPP (Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation) us out of the public square simply because she ideologically disagrees with pro-life Christians.”

Chris Ferrara, Senior Legal Counsel for the Thomas More Society representing CompassCare says, “The Attorney General has been trying to stop pro-life pregnancy centers from sharing information about Abortion Pill Reversal — a treatment that has helped thousands of women continue their pregnancies after changing their minds about a chemical abortion, without a single example of harm or even a consumer complaint.”

CompassCare educates about the dangers of chemical abortion and facilitates emergency progesterone therapy for women who started the chemical abortion process, changed their minds, and want to save their babies, pulling life from the very jaws of death.

Rev. Harden insists, “If James has her way, she will force truth out of the public square while forcing women to have abortions they don’t want in a way that threatens their very lives. This is not medical care, this is government-coerced quackery.”

Not only are there 16 medical studies supporting CompassCare’s position, but chemical abortion is so dangerous that it is currently under a safety review at the FDA because new data reveals the drug sends 1 in 10 women to the emergency room.

Mr. Ferrara continued, “The Attorney General has not been able to point to a single false statement by our clients because there isn’t one. What she’s really trying to do is silence a message she disagrees with. Neither the law nor the facts support her attack on free speech.”
