Taylor’s Story: Why We Walk for Life

Homeless and jobless. Feeling like life dealt more blows than blessings, Taylor embodied the word “discouraged.” Her clothes hung in tatters. Her hair lay disheveled. A worn-out backpack held everything she owned, evidence of an unstable life. She also carried the burdens of drug addiction and physical and emotional abuse from multiple boyfriends.

Taylor arrived at CompassCare with her cousin, who was her best friend and the only one who would stand with her, no matter what happened. She hid her internal turmoil with a sweet smile and pleasant greeting to the nurse. Yet worry and fear soon rose to the surface, dominating the conversation. A recent at-home pregnancy test read positive. “I can’t bring a baby into the world. Not now.”

Taylor held her cousin’s hand as the ultrasound came into view, confirming a very young baby. Despite hearing a heartbeat, she asked about abortion. The nurse answered her questions frankly regarding the risks and side effects.

Taylor had never heard the full story of Jesus and the peace He offers.

The quiet room took a hopeful turn as the nurse shared the Gospel with the pair. Taylor had never heard the full story of Jesus and the peace He offers. In that moment, she said yes to surrendering her life to Christ, warmly accepting the nurse’s invitation to pray. Together, they asked God to be Lord over her whole life and her difficult circumstances.

Taylor left with new hope in her heart. But she missed her follow-up appointment the next week. Two months passed with no response. Still, the nursing team kept praying for Taylor and her baby.

Good news finally broke the silence. Taylor was overjoyed to share that she was having a baby girl! The CompassCare team continued offering resources throughout Taylor’s pregnancy, including a MotherCare mentor to walk alongside her after the birth.

Thank you for supporting women and saving babies.
