On September 13, Governor Hochul unveiled a plan to codify Cuomo’s 2019 abortion expansion bill known as the Reproductive Health Act. After passing the act, nothing was done to interpret and enforce it. Madam Hochul in her new role as governor wasted no time amassing a team of abortion allies, enshrining abortion as a human right. The governor’s website states, “The Governor directed the Department of Health to take immediate action to develop and widely distribute modern and comprehensive [medical] provider guidance on the right to provide abortion care and to ensure updates to existing regulations are adopted so that medication abortion can be more easily accessed….”
Many are concerned that these new rules will weaken the rights of conscience for medical providers who refuse to participate in abortion.
