According to data published by the Center for Disease Control, abortion in the U.S. is at an all-time low, decreasing 24% since 2006. The disturbing trend is the 114% rise in the use of chemical abortions within that same timeframe. In New York, chemical abortion represents 29.6% of all abortions in 2017, up 12% from the previous year. This is a disturbing trend due to the high risk nature of chemical abortion. Most chemical abortions take place at home without direct medical supervision and the negative side-effects of the drugs include serious and sometimes fatal excessive bleeding and bacterial infection. Even the FDA warns against use of chemical abortion without direct medical oversight. So why would an abortionist be willing to endanger a woman’s health by sending her home with these pills? Could it be less work for more money?
