Teenagers Hailey and Caleb showed up at one of CompassCare’s NYC offices this summer, after fearing she was pregnant. Hailey was so distraught. Her first impression of the clean and professional office eased some of her anxiety. Then a compassionate CompassCare nurse met with Hailey, privately at first, answering all her questions and allaying her fears.
The pregnancy test was negative and she had no symptoms of being pregnant. Her nurse communicated the news as she re-entered the exam room. And Hailey began to cry.
You might think, ‘Not pregnant. End of story.’ But every CompassCare nurse is trained to share the hope of the Gospel with every patient. At this point, with tears in her eyes, Hailey began to relay how her grandmother would take her to church and pray for her. They had a very close relationship, and while her “Grannie” has since passed away, her faith-filled words and actions have a special place in Hailey’s heart.
Good News!
The nurse gave an invitation and Hailey knew she needed to completely surrender her life to Jesus. As happens often, the two prayed together, right there in the exam room. Hailey was given a Bible and additional literature. She was so excited to think that she had a Bible of her own and she expressed her commitment to read it every day.
When Hailey and Caleb left the office, they thanked the staff and were grateful that CompassCare was there for them. They were both relieved the pregnancy test was negative. And the CompassCare team was elated that a soul was added to the Kingdom of God! Please join us in continuing to pray for this patient and her family, her boyfriend, and all the precious women who come into one of CompassCare’s six medical offices throughout New York. CompassCare medical appointments deal with unplanned pregnancies and other medical issues. But, at the core, each appointment is always about the hope of the Gospel.
