Why is Abortion Down 44% in Buffalo Bucking NYS Trend?

For the first time ever, Erie County New York’s abortion numbers fell below 2,000 per year in 2023, according to the NYS Vital Statistics Report.

This is a massive answer to prayer and what the Church, through CompassCare, has been working toward since three pregnancy centers merged to provide pro-life medical care in 2019. This really is a testimony to the effectiveness and unity of the Church working together.

Six years ago, CompassCare launched the “50% in 5 Years” campaign, with the goal of reducing Buffalo abortions by 50%. The approach: Build the pro-life medical service and education infrastructure, helping more women considering abortion have their babies. So far, abortion is down in Buffalo by 44%! New York State Vital Statistics tell the story:

Erie County Abortions

2019: 3,268 abortions

2020: 3,072 abortions

2021: 3,042 abortions

2022: 2,918 abortions

2023: 1,839 abortions

As a result, Buffalo is no longer one of the “Top 5” New York metro areas that perform abortions. Because of the work of the people of God, serving, sacrificing, and educating, Buffalo has become a much more pro-life city in just five years.

It’s been a difficult road. The building was firebombed in 2022. We’ve also faced extreme marketing censorship, with search engines literally wiping us off the map. But the Church has prevailed. Pastors have rallied. It’s been very encouraging. Despite this reassuring report, there is still much work to do. Abortion numbers are dramatically up throughout the rest of New York State, the abortion capital of America, especially in other regions where CompassCare has new medical offices, including the Bronx, Staten Island, and Brooklyn, America’s abortion headquarters.
