Who is sacred? The World Health Organization estimates nearly 80 million abortions occur globally every year. If the 50-year average were half that, the total number of babies aborted would equal an apocalyptic 1/4 of the world’s population (Rev. 6:8). Abortion is on the rise in America, where tragically, 70% of women say they felt coerced into it. Most abortions in the U.S. are chemical abortions, sending 1 in 10 women to the ER with severe and life-threatening complications. Yet the abortion industry insists the drugs are “safer than Tylenol.” Furthermore, New York is America’s abortion capital with more abortions per capita than any other state in the nation. But it is not the unimaginable statistics, the unethical coercion, the negative side-effects to women, or even the bad public policy that cause Christians to understand that abortion is wrong.
Abortion is wrong always and everywhere because Scripture reveals there are only two things in this world that are sacred: God and people. To be sacred is to be holy, set apart, revered. The main character in this epic saga of creation is the thrice Holy Creator (Rev. 4:8). And His unique crown of creation, humanity, is “made in His image” (Gen. 1:27). This means each person is dignified with inherent value, demanding respect and protection (Gen. 9:6). Added to that, each and every person that has ever or will ever live, God had in mind before the foundation of the world (Eph. 1:4). And at the proper time He lovingly “[wove] us together in our mother’s womb” (Ps. 139:13).
Placing an exclamation point on the value of humanity, Jesus, God in the flesh, taught His disciples in no uncertain terms to protect and bless babies.
2026 National Walk for Life
Saturday, May 2
Save 1,320 women and babies from abortion in America’s abortion capital, NY, in 2026. Register to Host or Join a Walk at CompassCareWalk.com.
Remember the situation in Mark 10 when parents were rebuked by Jesus’ disciples for bringing their babies to be blessed by Jesus? Scripture says, “But when Jesus saw this, He was indignant and said to them, ‘Permit the children to come to Me; do not hinder them; for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these’” (Mark 10:15).
At that moment, Jesus underscores the truth that all people are sacred, deserving of protection, especially the weak and vulnerable. Jesus was angry with the disciples because they ought to have known better. Unless someone picks up the cause of the sinner before a holy God, we all, like babies, will die of exposure. Did not the disciples understand Jesus’ mission to save us from sin and death? And once Jesus becomes our personal Savior and Lord, we are to walk in His footsteps, learning to “engage in good deeds to meet pressing needs” (Titus 3:15).
Could there be a more pressing need than saving a woman and her baby from such hopelessness that death and destruction through abortion is viewed as a type of salvation?
Like the disciples, America miscalculates the depth of human value. Abortion is a symptom of this moral bankruptcy. If people really understood who they are, they would see abortion for the horror that it is. America has forgotten the sacredness of being human under God. And only the Church can teach this truth.
This cultural moment is ripe for you and me to fulfill Jesus’ Great Commission to “make disciples of all nations…teaching them to observe all that I commanded you…” (Mt. 28: 19, 20). Abortion is a platform for the Church to actively educate the nation about the sacredness of each person, both mom and baby. Solving the crisis of what has become mundane murder requires a re-orienting of our lives and our communities back to God, our Creator. Only then can we give due respect to one made in God’s image, whether in or out of the womb.
CompassCare’s Walk for Life, the largest pro-life event in New York, is a great way to teach our communities about the sacredness of each person as made in God’s image, while raising the funds necessary to save women and babies from abortion with an ethical medical alternative in America’s abortion capital of New York.
The Walk for Life is coming up on Saturday, May 2. The goal for the Walk for Life is to sponsor one third of CompassCare’s projected patient load for 2026, helping 1320 women considering abortion have their babies. To accomplish this goal, $752,000 needs to be raised. By joining or hosting a Walk for Life in your community, you can help save more women and babies from abortion in 2026 on the frontlines of America’s abortion battle, New York.
Together, let’s put feet to the truth that all people are sacred, made in the image of God and deserving of protection. Register to Walk today!
