Everything the Church Does Through CompassCare is About Life

As we enter the 250th year of this country’s birth, you are likely familiar with these words in the founding document, the Declaration of Independence, penned by Thomas Jefferson. “We hold these Truths to be self-evident, that all Men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life… ”

The right enumerated first in America’s founding Declaration of Independence is not just first in order but also first in importance: Life. Thankfully, the U.S. Congress this summer passed a budget that will eliminate nearly $1 billion in annual revenue from the world’s largest abortion business, Planned Parenthood.

Being “pro-life” means believing all people are fully and equally human at the moment of fertilization and ought to be protected.

Being “pro-life” means believing all people are fully and equally human at the moment of fertilization and ought to be protected under law according to both the Fifth (no deprivation of life without due process of law) and the 14th (equal protection under the law) amendments to the Constitution.

The Declaration of Independence carries the seed of a truly blind justice system when it says that “all people are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights.”

And so, when government fabricates a right, such as a woman’s right to abortion, inherently interfering with another person’s unalienable right to life (such as a preborn baby’s), it is, as Justice Alito would say, “on a collision course with the Constitution.”

It should go without saying that all other rights, however defined, presume upon the foundation and protection of this prime right. Life is the true ‘sine qua non’ – the essential condition — of whatever other right one may ascribe to “liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”

Not just celebrating life, but actively pursuing it, is what fuels CompassCare. Nurses are quick to show a new life developing in a mother’s womb via ultrasound imaging. Resource managers link women to community resources that protect and promote life. Mentoring moms come alongside a woman facing an unplanned pregnancy to disciple and teach that new mother about caring for new life.

Everything the Church does through CompassCare is about life.

And that is why the Church must continue to protect life. Through acts of service. Through dialogue within congregations and in the public square. Through prayer and volunteering. And through giving. Some women who come to CompassCare do not see life. They see obstacles to continuing a pregnancy such as homelessness, loss of a job, loss of income, loss of emotional support. Many times, they only see death of dreams. And that’s why they come to CompassCare looking for an abortion.

But you can make a difference! You can give a woman a vision of life! A gift of just $47 each month provides a woman with comprehensive medical care and community support to have her baby.
