Christians believe abortion is wrong because all people are made in the image of God each being equally valuable without qualification. Each person is fully human at all stages of maturity, from the womb to the tomb. To narrow the definition of who qualifies as human is to permit the law to play favorites, creating human sub-classes for society to oppress. The Supreme Court has a sordid history of doing this, calling Native Americans ‘savages’ in 1823 in order to deny them their land, calling blacks 3/5 human in 1857 to rob their freedom, and stealing the fertility of poor people through forced sterilization by labeling them ‘mentally unfit’ in 1927. All these were rectified. Yet, an injustice remains…depriving preborn boys and girls of personhood status to justify killing them through abortion (1973).
